A
quiz with "Single Answer Questions" created with the Instant
Web Quiz Generator can have up to fifty questions in total,
and each question having up to ten possible answers.
What
I mean by "Single Answer Questions" is that each question
can only have one correct answer. This software can also create
quizzes with multiple choice questions, but that's covered later.
Here's
an example of a small quiz with single answer questions:
|
|
 |
|
Of
course the questions and answers in this example aren't particularly
meaningful, but they're to give you an idea of the look and feel.
And
as you can see - it's clearly labeled which are the correct and
incorrect answers in this case. So here I choose just the answers
labeled as "Correct" by clicking there for each question:
|
|
 |
|
What
I then do - and what you would do once you're happy with your answers
is click upon the button Grade Me.
What
that does is then check your answers, and take you to the Results
page - which looks like this:
|
|
 |
|
As
you can see - the Results page gives you three pieces of
information:
- The number
of questions you got right out of the total. In my case it's "3
out of 3".
- The questions
you got wrong. In this example - since I didn't get any wrong,
no question numbers are included here.
- And the total
grade as a percentage. Since I got all questions correct in this
case, my grade is of course 100%.
If you then
want to take the quiz again, you simply click on the button Take
The Quiz Again:
|
|
 |
|
Now
in this example I'm going to enter a wrong answer for every single
question:
|
|
 |
|
And
then after clicking on the Grade Me button, I get the following
results - which are to be expected:
|
|
 |
|
Now
if I take the quiz once again - with two answers incorrect and one
correct:
|
|
 |
|
After
clicking on the Grade Me button, I get the results I expect:
- I get one
question right out of three.
- The questions
I answered incorrectly in this case are questions 1 and 2.
- My grade
as a percentage is 33.333(recurring) - one third in other words.
You can see
how this looks below.
Now this time,
I'm going to assume I didn't know exactly which questions I answered
incorrectly, so I'd like to see exactly where I went wrong -- I
can do so by clicking on the View Solution button:
|
|
 |
|
And
what the quiz then does is take me back to the quiz page so that
I can check my answers AND what it also does is popup a Solution
window - like this:
|
|
 |
|
The
Solution window tells me what the correct answers are for
each question.
And
the questions I answered incorrectly - the solutions appear in red
text.
The
questions I answered correctly - they appear in default black text.
One
important point regarding the Solutions window:
It's
a popup window as you can see. It's a smallish window that pops
up over the quiz so that you can compare your answers with the actual
correct answers.
However,
if you have a popup blocker installed - for example as part of the
Google toolbar, the Alexa toolbar, or some other popup blocker --
then chances are you won't see the Solution window.
Therefore
- in this case, if you want to check your answers, you're going
to have to temporarily disable your popup blocker.
Now
here's another feature of the quiz - the Reset button. If
at any time you want to clear all the answers you've already entered
into the quiz, just click on the Reset button like this:
|
|
 |
|
And
you'll see that immediately all the answers you've already entered
are cleared:
|
|
 |
|
Now
- another important feature these quizzes have is that they check
what you've entered before giving you any results.
In
other words - the quiz needs ALL the questions to be answered before
it can grade you.
So
in the example of our three question quiz below, if I don't answer
any questions before clicking Grade Me - I'll receive the
following error prompt:
|
|
 |
|
And
then if I was to only answer question 1 before clicking upon the
Grade Me button:
|
|
 |
|
I'll
then see the following error prompt:
|
|
 |
|
And
even if after answering both questions one and two, I neglect to
answer the third question and click on the Grade Me button,
the quiz will pop up the following error prompt:
|
|
 |
|
These
prompts - as mentioned, are because the quiz won't issue any results
for the quiz until all the questions have answers.
Now
one final example for this page - still taking our quiz with just
three questions:
I
answer every question correctly, click upon the Grade Me
button, and then once on the Results page click on the View
Solution button -- I'll then see the Solution popup with
all the correct answers displayed.
But
because I got ALL the questions correct, all the answers display
in the default black text, as opposed to displaying in red text
for any questions I may have got incorrect:
|
|
 |
|
So
that's how you can take a quiz with single answer questions created
by the Instant
Web Quiz Generator.
In
the next section we'll cover how
to take quizzes with multiple choice questions.
And
just before we leave this section - I'll repeat these points again
because these are important points:
- If you want
to view the Solution popup by clicking on View Solution
button on the Results page, you will have to disable your
popup blocker - if you have one installed.
If the Solution popup is not appearing for you, that's
the most likely reason.
- These quizzes
are created with Internet Explorer in mind and we can only guarantee
they work with Internet Explorer.
With Internet Explorer accounting for more that likely at least
90% of the market, it wasn't feasible us trying to get these quizzes
to work with every single minority browser.
So if the quiz doesn't seem to be responding, or seems to be acting
strangely - first things first, make sure you're viewing it in
Internet Explorer. That should solve most of the possible issues.
- And these
quizzes are written in JavaScript which is a programming
language that runs within your web browser giving you lots of
useful functionality.
If you have JavaScript disabled, as soon as you access the quiz
page, you'll get a warning telling you that you don't have JavaScript
enabled. And you won't be able to view the quiz.
To view and take the quiz, you will need to ensure that JavaScript
is enabled in your browser.
To be perfectly frank - by default JavaScript is enabled, so if
it's disabled in your browser, you've probably done it yourself
and therefore would probably know how to turn it back on.
If you're not sure however, there's more information regarding
this on
the following page.
But if you're not comfortable tinkering with your own browser
security settings, it's probably best you don't since if you get
things wrong it can cause problems.
In this case - I can't offer any particular advice, and it would
be best you make these changes in the company of someone technical
who understands what can go wrong and what to avoid doing.
Anyway - the last couple of paragraphs may have been totally redundant
as mentioned, since the vast majority of web browsers have JavaScript
enabled, which means that yours probably does too.
