Hi,
I don't know if it's just the sites I've been visiting, but it seems
a lot sites are wider.
For a while it seems all the sites were 75% of the window or less
and a lot of the updated sites seem to be taking up the whole window.
I like the wider look, but I was wondering if visitors do.

I
like sites that are about the size of this forum. I think that if
you have some sort of non-distracting border that it will help to
draw the eye into the content of the page without alot of eye wondering.

Roy,
I guess it's a personal preference. I just wondered why some sites
seem to be changing to a wider look.

Who knows for sure why. Thats what makes the net so interesting. You
can change your sites look and design to fit the times and mood.

jcolanzi
Roy,
I wonder if part of it has to do with the look of blogs?
It seems the sites have started getting wider after blogs became popular.

Thats a very good possibilty!!

Hi
John,
I believe the simple reason is because people now have much
larger monitors and smaller screen resolution then in the past.
The narrower sites now look way too small on these.
Thanks

Allan,
I hadn't even thought of that. I don't have one of the real large
screens, but it's much bigger than my first monitor.
Maybe that's why I like the wider look now.

One
thing that concerns me is if you set the width of your table as a
percentage of the screen, and the person viewing it has a large monitor,
do they end up with incredibly long lines of text which are difficult
to read?
I always set my tables at around 600 pixels which won't be cut off
in any screen size, but perhaps for those with large monitors, they
end up seeing just a thin column in the middle of their screen?
It's a tricky one.

Hi
Louis,
I've personally moved away from 600 and now go a little wider
at 680 and for some sites even 740.
Thanks

Another
thing to consider is that monitors are getting bigger, but now there
are people buying smaller monitors too. The flat panel screens are
great, however it's made the 15" monitor come back into style,
because that's what's affordable.
I like to keep my table at 600 so even if someone is viewing me in
640 x 480 it will come up right. I had a web design client who didn't
like that, they wanted the site to stretch depending on the size of
the monitor. To me the site looks jumbled at some sizes, but that's
what they want. It's all a preference game.
Kennon
that
you won't change the size on the sales pages for RREM yet,
Louis. I like the width that you've been using on those.
