Hi Readers,

I just got an email from a well-known internet marketer and it's
someone that I really appreciate.

There is, however, one thing that's really set me off! I just
decided to type up a quick reply to them about their particular
offer and to indicate my interest in making a special deal, a
negotiated alternative. When I hit reply in my Outlook Express
program, I then had showing on my screen an email address that
began "DoNotReply@..." ... Let me tell you...THIS really ticked me
off!

I'm wondering. Am I the only one that feels this way when this
happens? And let me add, may God forbid that my clients go
through something like this with me.

I look forward to responses in this thread.

Thanks,
Kennon :)

Hmm, I might have received the same email :)

There's an obvious reason why marketers do it. Some viruses send themselves to any email address they find in any of the users mailboxes. By not putting in a real email address when they send out their messages, the marketers protect themselves from that.

But, as you saw, it is really annoying if you want to email them.

For all I know this may be another intent - email can take up a lot of time, especially if they are questions that need some thought before you reply.

There is the question of whether it's legal with the new spam laws. I thought email had to have a valid reply-to address, but I could be thinking of something else.

Personally, I hate it when marketers don't include an email address. I feel it shows that they don't want me to communicate with them. That all they want to do is sell me something, not try and help me.

I'll never do it with any email I send to my subscribers/customers - I want it to be as easy as poissble for them to contact me!

Cheers,
Jason

I *believe* it's done because of sheer quantity of email. I very rarely send out broadcast emails these days but when I do I always get a whole bunch of replies.

One thing Neil Shearing has told me is that since he's moved to his support system the quality of contact from customers has become a lot higher.

Instead of "PLEASE CANCEL" with no details whatsoever, they actually offer the right membership information so it can immediately be taken care of.

And I recently had to choose the "Business" option in Lee Benson's (http://www.plexec.com) support desk - it worked well for a question I wanted to ask, and I got a reply - something that doesn't always happen when you just send an email.

Louis,

That's excellent. I used to be part of a membership site that had
a "support ticket" type of system and it was integrated with the
email. I really liked the results from that.

Hi Kennon,

Yup, it's VERY annoying.

If they're going to use this "tactic" it would
be nice if they stated somewhere "don't hit
reply, emails sent are never seen". I notice
that some do...

If they don't include the above message
at least include an email address you can
respond to in the body of the email...

I wanted to thank someone for their marketing
"cheat"(nothing unethical) sheet and congrats
to the new mom & pop... received a "no-one
reading replies" type auto-reply.

Did I send my message through a form or
search for a valid email address? NO.

Support Tickets can be useful when they
work! My personal experiences have not
been so great. There always seems to be
an error message... then I have to re-type
my support request all over again...

It's probably a good idea to use the no-reply
route. Less time wasting emails from people,
serious people will use contact form, pick up
the phone, etc.

Kennon
Thanks.

As for use of the telephone, I like it too! Unfortunately with this
guy, it appears to me that he's been difficult to reach him by that
means as well.

Just want to say publicly that Willie C. just helped me out with a
need and I really appreciate it!

Thanks for your contributions, IPTers!

Hi Ken,

I don't mind these addresses as long as they include a valid
email address somewhere in the email. As was already pointed
out, it's good to state not to reply to the bogus address.

I've noticed some people use these types of addresses with
autoresponders. If you've ever had an autoresponder caught
in an endless loop I can certainly understand.

Willie
