Hi all

First off ... Happy New Year to you and I hope that your festive period went smoothly for you.

Question for any of you audio "geeks" out there (in a polite way of course). I have recently purchased a fantastic package which contains about 7 MP3 files which are all approx 19 - 32MB in size ... huge when all I have is dial up modem to download them and then reupload them to my server :(

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can convert these files into something smaller that won't have a dramatic impact on the quality of these files and can still be played on Real Audio or Windows Media Player?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Digitally delivered audio is always a compromise between size and quality.

After much testing I found these settings (or close) are the best compromise between the two I could find - generally with these settings 30 minutes of audio = 5MB

Anything less than these settings and I've found the audio really starts becoming "unpublishable".

You should find plenty of freeware and shareware audio conversion/editing programs at the following links:

Hi Louis

Thanks for your reply.

I actually found a great piece of software at snapfiles.com (used to be called webattack.com) called Power MP3 to WMA Converter which I have used to convert the files into WMA files which I have tested on Windows Media Player AND Real Player.

I managed to convert them with stereo channels at 80kBps bit rate and it has practically halved the size without any distinguishing loss of quality.

Neil,

My partners and I are progressing very nicely now with our new
streaming media technology where people can view/listen on-line
to audio/video. What we have is something that people are going
to just love. Why don't you go give us a little feedback at our
current ask campaign?

Here's the URL: http://www.audio-video-creator.com

I'm really excited about our progress and hope we can help you.

Thanks,
Kennon :)

Hi Kennon

Wow! The project certainly looks like it is going to be a winner for you and your partners.

Looks like I am going to have to start organising teleseminars/phone interviews just so I can have an excuse to use audio on my sites :blueblink

Best of luck with it and am certainly looking forward to the release.

Cheers
