You
Can Lead A Horse To Water
by John Colanzi

It’s amazing how many false beliefs we are taught and pass
on without a second thought. What’s even worse is most if
not all of them place limits on our abilities.
We don’t pass around beliefs that tell us how great we are,
or how abundant the world we live in truly is.
Even our fairy tales for children are designed to place
false limits on their ambitions. Fly too close to the sun
and your wings will melt. Heaven help us if we’re labeled a
dreamer.
Well the fact is, these limiting beliefs are outright B.S.
One of those is the axiom that, “You can lead a horse to
water, but you can’t make him drink.”
That’s outright drivel, perpetuated by individuals who don’t
have a clue how the real world works. If it were true there
would be a lot of dead horses on every farm around the
world.
Yes you can make a horse drink.
How do you get a horse to drink?
The same way you get a customer to buy your goods and
services.
You make him thirsty. You make him want that water more than
he’s ever wanted anything in his life.
Let Old Paint take a few licks of a salt lick and you’ll
have to get out of his way, he’ll shove you out of the way
to get to that water. He’ll lap it up like a kitten with a
fresh bowl of milk.
Copywriters know that. They make us thirsty for products and
services we don’t need all the time. Our would economy fall
apart in a heartbeat if we only bought what we needed.
They know that guys don’t just buy a car. Men are convinced
they are buying that blonde standing next to the car.
Talk about making men thirsty.
Why do women buy all those romance novels?
Because they’re buying the dream of being with the pirate on
the cover, or whatever bad guy they’re going to tame and make
into a their personal hero.
Next time you’re writing your ad copy, think about making
your prospects thirsty. How can you make them drool for your
product?
Get those folks thirsty and get out of the way or they’ll
run you over on the way to the water hole.
Yes you can lead a horse to water and with a little creative
thinking you can make him drink.
Wishing You Success,
John Colanzi
