Kennon
Hi all,

I was on 2 different teleconferences yesterday. In fact, for a
while they were both going at the same time. I had to bounce
between the two!

The one I want to ask about is...

Was anyone on Armand Morin's website critique call yesterday?

I wondered if anyone that was on there would share some things
they heard on the call. Here's what I heard...

For headlines on your site, Armand recommends using Tahoma
size 16 and to put your action words in red in contrast to the rest
in black.

Don't use links at the top of your sales letter... it can kill your
sales and distract your readers from the focus you want, which is
for them to buy your product/service offer.

There's more that I'll leave for others to share. I only stayed on
the call a short while... it was supposed to run 6 hours... I needed
to do some of my own work here! :)

Look forward to finding others sharing on this one.

Kennon :)

One thing that I learned on the call was about the size of the tables you use.

I usually keep them just narrow enough to look right on 800 x 600 because there is still a good amount of people using that resolution.

It was suggested to keep them at 640 because that the width that works when printed.

- Thought that was a good tip if you think people may print your salesletter out.

Oh yeah, George! I heard that point too. Glad you reminded me
about that.

He Kennon,
How is it going?

In regards to tables, I always recommend not going over 600 on the width. There are still many people who use 800x600 and if you go 640 they will have to scroll to the right.

Take Care,
Phil

Thanks, Phil.

Louis, have you considered factoring this in to the sales pages
you create for your RREM members?

Hi Kennon

I've actually always put my tables for ALL sales letters at 600 pixels wide to avoid this issue. It's also the same reason I record all videos in a 640 x 480 setting.

Even though I believe the most common way people have their monitor is 800 x 600 pixels, I'm sure there's some people still working at 640 x 480.

One danger however is that those with very large monitors often have a large setting like 1024 x 768 to get more on the screen. In those cases a thin table column at 600 pixels can end up having lots of space around it on either side which can look a little odd.

The only way around this is then to use "percent" width for the table rather than a fixed "pixel" width.

However then you could end up with very wide columns containing long lines of text which are hard to read.

I would therefore say it's not really possible to please everyone in this case. I personally am going to stick with the time-tested 600 pixel wide table since I know that works. :)

Thanks, Louis. Somehow I was thinking you'd set some at 650.

As for your plan to stick with the time-tested 600 wide, I confirm
that you should stick with the "lowest common denominator."

I think 600 is the height rather than the width, so 700-750 should be ok for 800x600 users.

If you optimise for 800x600 and 1024x768 this should take in about 90% of your users.
