Hi
buds,
Who do you recommend(also read as who do you
use) when transcribing audios to text?
What's a good turn around time?
Is there a certain price range?
What other "deals" do you have in place to "pay"
the transcriber? Example: "you transcribe it, you
get to sell it..."

Hi
Yoon
Who do you recommend(also read as who do you
use) when transcribing audios to text?
For the past few audios I've been using:

What's a good turn around time?
Generally the faster you want it back the more it costs. You can probably
have it back in a couple of days (depending how long the audio is
of course) or up to a week or two for a lower rate.
Is there a certain price range?
You'd have to shop around. I have seen transcription services at 1
cent per word which actually really adds up.
In my experience an hour of audio is around 10,000 words - therefore
using that 1 cent per word fee - each hour of audio would cost you
$100 for transcription.
What other "deals" do you have in place to "pay"
the transcriber? Example: "you transcribe it, you
get to sell it..."
I've never seen anything like that.
Sincerely,
Louis

Well
let me say my 14 year old daughter types 80 wpm so if you guys have
any audio that needs transcription I think I can work something out...
:p
Aside from that I've seen in the back of WritersDigest magizine lots
of ads for transcriptions. .. Don't know if you can get it outside
the US. Their site is http://www.WritersDigest.com

I
use the transcription services provided through E-teleconferencing.com
The company is run by a close friend and his wife manages the transcription
end of things. Turn aroud can be fairly fast and since they understand
internet marketing they are perfect for me.
I'm not sure about price but all it takes is an email to confirm it.
I once transcribed a 90 minute recording that I did. It took me about
6 hours and after all of that rewinding and listening to the same
sentences over and over again (often dealing with people speaking
in whispered tons and hard to understand lingo) I vowed never to do
THAT again :-)
I might add the professional transcriptionist have a secret - they
can usually slow down the playback speed on the recording considerably.

That's a really good speed! When I used to transcribe my own audios
I found generally 10 minutes of audio took an hour to type.

I didn't know that. I wonder if it makes it sound like everyone's
slurring their speech. ;)

I was typing 75 words a minute in the 9th grade and was up to 85 words
a minute in college. I have no clue what it is now, but I'm sure it's
very high :-)
I've never used the machine transcriptionist use. I have see the ones
with foot pedals that allow them not only control the speed but stop,
start and rewind all using their feet while typing away. It's still
not something I would want to spend a lot of time doing.
