..."eBiz"
as the prefix for what will be a series of sites and ebooks.
And I need the input quickly cuz Willie Crawford's havin a sale: .com's
for just $6.95 a throw...but only til the end of April. I plan to
get me about half a dozen.
The first site will be for new to intermediate online marketers (covering
site design, content, security, promo, etc. plus ezine and product
creation and marketing, affiliate programs, and so on.
YOU know, the kind of site that's NEVER been done before. Well, okay,
maybe there was one; but it's gone now, isn't it?)
Future sites will include a large resource directory and some others.
I'd like to use one term or the other to provide a consistent brand
feel between them...but I just can't decide which I like better.
I've determined that a number of names I like are available as "eBiz______.com"
AND as "NetBiz______.com". I'd rather not specify the rest;
I trust MOST of you not to scoop me, but there's that one guy lurking
in the corner... Smile
So what do you think, folks?
Thanks for your input.
Louis
I
would say it depends how you plan to use the sites.
If you don't expect people to actually remember the domain, and simply
click through to it through an affiliate link, advert...etc. then
I would say the domain name isn't hugely important.
Many single page sites (just a sales letter) have very long names
which I assume people would never type in.
For example - when Mark Joyner was still publishing eBooks, the domain
he was selling an eBook from often had the same text as the title
of the book - making it very long!
Going from memory it was something like:
HowToWriteABookAndSellAMillionCopies.com
Not exactly easy to remember nor type in.
However, I feel it's good to have a memorable name that is easy to
type in too.
This memorable name will hopefully stick in people's minds if you
keep repeating it so you could keep getting some traffic from that
now and in the future. You're never going to get the same branding
as Google, but a bit of branding certainly won't hurt.
And I try to think of names that would be easy to say for example
at a teleseminar. Something easy to remember AND spell correctly.
An example of this is:
MarketingWithPostcards.com
It's not particularly short, but it's memorable and easy to type in
because it's just a short phrase in English.
Sincerely,
Louis

Hi
Louis. Yes, I guess I was a little vague...
I'm thrilled that my first post on this forum got a reply from the
moderator him(your)self. And a detailed and well-considered reply
it was. Thanks.
That calls for an equally (okay, more) detailed response. Here goes...
What I have in mind is a site fairly heavy on content. I plan to have
"channels" addressing many of the hot topics for online
marketers.
They'll include strategy and planning, getting started, site design/content/promotion,
ebook creation/marketing, ezine creation/promotion, affiliate programs,
viral marketing strategies and auctions.
Each channel will contain
- my own articles,
- my own blurbs and reviews on products and services (some free; others
fee-based with affiliate links)
- packages of "classic" (translation: older) ebooks and
software, plus individual newer releases (to which I have resale rights)
related to the topic
- related articles by other authors
- links to selected other resources
The site will emphasize the benefits of subscribing to my newsletter
and downloading my own ebooks, many of which will be free.
Regarding your other points...
As you say, long names are hard to remember accurately and type in.
Typically, they'll be clicking a link from my newsletter, an article
resource box, one of my free ebooks, etc.
But some will be typing and having to remember it. So for all the
reasons you mentioned, it should be fairly short for typers (and I
plan to include free email soon...).
From a long list of contenders, I think it's now down to
NetBizTurbo.com (or eBizTurbo.com), which is short, punchy and implies
powering up their online business, but isn't specific; OR
NetBizTipsAndTools.com (or eBiz...), which is longer, but communicates
that the site offers both info on how to do things better AND the
tools to make it happen.
Like Joyner, Jimmy Brown and others, I'll also be registering my ebook
titles as separate domains. Those sites will be something more than
simple sales letters, but not as elaborate as the first.
Thanks again.

Ho Um
Yo
BT,
'NetBiz' vs 'eBiz'... that's a tough one...
Which one do you think is easier to say?
I'm assuming this would make the domain
easier to remember?
I believe that 'eBiz' is the term most often
used amoungst the regular populace when
talking about Internet based businesses.
Will you be cross-linking each site?
If you are setting up affiliate programs for
the sites then shorter domains would be
better.
NetBizTurbo.com vs. NetBizTipsAndTools.com
I personally think the 2nd one is better,
as it is much more descriptive. Perhaps the
NetBizTurbo.com could be a base for all your
sites? A portal of some sort.
Looks like you have lots of great stuff in
store for the NetBiz(or was it eBiz) crowd.
:D

Yeah, I guess so. And it's easier to say, but I went with NetBiz.
Partly from my impression of eBiz saying the business is electronic,
sure, but not necessarily net-based. Partly, perhaps, positioning
myself a bit different than the common (generic?) "eBiz".
I posted the question in a few forums. Got 1 vote for each and some
other good comments. Indeed, one from our esteemed moderator (see
thread above).
Here are the 5 domains I went with:
NetBizTipsAndTools.com
ViralMarketingAndPromotion.com
---the sites which will have their own ezine, "channels",
etc. and will inform about a variety of cool stuff (and sell/refer
a wide range of product).
NetBizAutomationSecrets.com
TradeSecretsExposed.com
Top10TrafficBuilders.com
---the first 3 of many planned ebooks. As Louis and others mentioned,
it's a good idea to have a site with the name of your infoproducts.
But don't try to visit just yet. They'll be coming on stream over
the next 6 weeks or so.
>>Will you be cross-linking each site?
Of course. "And check out our sister sites..."
>>...if you are setting up an affiliate program...
Yes, indeedy. Again, a forum sig line led me to a great service provider
that bundles hosting, tracking, responders, affiliate admin/management
and more for a great rate.
I've got some nifty ideas about AP's, plugging the common leaks, and
combining it with a viral component. More on that as it happens.

I agree. That's why I went with it.

Hmm. Good idea. Didn't grab that yet. Maybe I will. Short. Easy to
remember and type. Good for free email. And can lead them to the other
sites. Hmmm...

Thanks. Don't know if my profile indicates it, but I'm from London,
Ontario. So we're fellow Canucks.
Stay tuned for developments!
